Who We Are

(Updated October 2005)

On June 30, 1998 a new forest products company was formed called the Mendocino Redwood Company, LLC. It was created to purchase approximately 228,800 acres of timberlands in Mendocino and Sonoma Counties.

The purchase also included a wood products distribution business and the Ukiah and Fort Bragg (now closed down) sawmills. These businesses have been organized into the Mendocino Forest Products Company, LLC. Mendocino Forest Products Company shares common ownership with the Mendocino Redwood Company.

The timberlands and associated businesses are owned and controlled by an affiliate of Sansome Partners, L.P., a private San Francisco-based investment firm specializing in long-term investments. The Fisher family of San Francisco is the primary investor in Sansome Partners, but is not involved in the day-to-day management of the Mendocino Redwood Company.

Richard Higgenbottom is the President of Mendocino Redwood Company. Sandy Dean, a principal of Sansome Partners, who began as President, has assumed the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of MRC. When the company opened its doors, Sandy Dean, then President, committed to the following:

    • "We are investing in Mendocino Redwood Company and its associated businesses for the long term."
•"Our planning is designed to increase the aggregate inventory of timber on these lands."
•"Our business decisions and our actions on the ground in the coming months and years will prove that we are committed to the land, to the community, and to our employees."
•"We are new owners. We will be a different kind of forest products company, one for which the community, our neighbors and employees can be justifiably proud and supportive."
