Mendocino Redwood Company's (MRC's) intent is to restore and maintain forestlands for long-term ecological, social, and economic vitality. Much has been accomplished since its inception in 1998. Soon after its creation, MRC began management planning efforts to identify, prioritize, and implement work to ensure results on the ground. In 2000, MRC completed a comprehensive Management Plan and submission of an Option A, a long-term harvest plan for the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF).
In addition to internal monitoring, MRC sought third party validation of its practices with FSC Certification which led to further planning work and announcements about certification follow-up. In 2001, MRC completed extensive landscape planning work which resulted in detailed baseline inventory data, available in the form of maps and charts, for each watershed in which MRC owns forestlands. MRC's is currently working on increased protections for endangered species with a Long Term Sustainable Forest Management PLan. This work as well as the analysis that has led to successful restoration projects represents a combined planning approach MRC will be pursuing into the future.
