SUMMARY
Provides assistance to the Area Forester in the preparation and completion of the Timber Harvest Plans (THP) and the administration of the activities of those plans.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Develops and assists in the preparation of the Timber Harvest Plan by performing research, organizing and analyzing field data, preparing the THP maps, analyzing air photos, and contacting outside resources if needed.
- Conducts field work including: traveling through the area defined by the THP and identifying harvest units; classifying water courses; identifying unstable areas; identifying archeological and historical sites, marking trees for harvest and retention, flagging unit boundaries, water courses, lake and protection zones; and establishing road layouts; timber marking.
- Conducts surveys including botanical, archeological, raptor and spotted owl.
- Prepares field notes to use in writing the THP.
- Develops and administers vegetation and reforestation projects.
- Administers field operations including designing and building roads.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal logging regulations; and with company environmental standards.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training in the forestry or logging field, required.
Must possess proven understanding of complex silvicultural regimes; simple statistical sampling and survey design; ability to identify a variety of plant and animal species; and simple surveying and road engineering layout skills.
COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of ArcView, word processing and Internet software.
